Our favorite octogenarians, Annie and Felty, are back playing matchmaker, but this time it is for their already married granddaughter, Mary Anne. Mary Anne and her husband, Jethro, are having marital issues. The straw that broke the camels back was when Jethro forgot their anniversary and went fishing with his friends. Mary Anne decided to move out...into a tent in their backyard. Her grandparents get wind of the move and decided to join her camping in the backyard. Pretty soon Annie and Felty h ...more

It was great to read the next book in the Huckleberry Hill series. This one was really different than those I've read in the past. Instead of making a match for one of her grandchildren, Anna Helmuth attempts to fix a marriage and goes all out to do so.

This warm-hearted story shows the love of family bonds and also the trials that come when an Amish couple no longer gets along as one might hope they do. The obstacles that poor Mary Anne has to work through are many as the people from church let

Home on Huckleberry Hill is the latest in the series by Jennifer Beckstrand and I must say, it is one of my favorites.
Anna and Felty are not matchmaking this time but working on getting thier grand daughter and her husband reunited.
This is not a typical Amish romance. After losing a baby and being told she will never have a baby, Mary Anne can not grieve. Though out the time following the loss, her husband, Jethro and she have been drifting apart. When he goes fishing on their anniversary, afte

Home on Huckleberry Hill is book nine from Jennifer Beckstrand’s The Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill series. This is probably my favorite of the series to date. Great read!

It's not often that I read romances where the main characters are already married, so this was definitely a different read for me than usual! I have loved Jennifer Beckstrand's books in the past, so I knew that she would be able to make it work for me. If you have read her previous books, you get to see some fun, familiar characters, which makes the reading all the more pleasant. I also felt there was a good deal more insight into the Amish culture than the last book I read, probably because thi ...more

Home on Huckleberry Hill by Jennifer Beckstrand is the ninth tale in The Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill. Anna Helmuth is worried about her granddaughter, Mary Anne’s marriage and, as usual, her instincts are spot on. Mary Anne Neuenschwander is fed up. She knows that she should be grateful for her home and her husband, but Mary Anne is not happy. Jethro cares more about his fishing pole than he does about Mary Anne. When he fails to remember their six-year anniversary, she moves into a tent in ...more

Mary Anne Neuenschwander knows she should be content with what Gotte has given her. She has a comfortable house, a fruitful farm, and a good, steady husband. But after nearly six years of marriage, she still longs for a baby. Yet her husband, Jethro, seems to care more about fishing than about his wife. Unable to bear Jethro’s indifference, Mary Anne moves into a tent in the woods where he won’t have to be bothered. But when her mammi and dawdi find out what she’s done, they’ll stop at nothing—i ...more

This is a book I would recommend. 4.5 stars
Its funny with characters that are very human. Mary Anne is tired of her marriage and has left her home. Divorce is not allowed in Amish society so she decides to just move out. Jethro thought his marriage was going on just fine and does not understand why his wife has left their home. The whole community has taken sides in solidarity and everyone has something to say about the situation. Felty and Anne (Mary Anne's grandparents) who love to match-make

This book is part of the Matchmakers series (à la Plain grandparents who try to fix up their loved ones with the perfect matches) – yet it’s about a married couple. And I loved that. Even married couples need a little nudge together once in a while. Mary Anne and Jethro certainly did. After ignoring some big issues for long enough, Jethro spent most of his time fishing, and Mary Anne spent most of her time trying not to be a disappointment. When Mary Anne finally feels so low she relegates herse ...more

Home On Huckleburry Hill is a story that is sad to say all too familiar. Now what that all too familiar story is it is man and woman marry - time goes by - man and woman drift apart and he just disses her and she gets fed up. He - I mean for real - he can only think and talk about is fishing - He doesn't have room in his life for anything else. She is heartbroken. This is my first experience with the characters of Huckleberry Hill as written by Jennifer Beckstrand and I’m so excited to have found this wonderful storyteller and her delightful Amish characters. Anna and Felty Helmuth have been married for many, many years and they have every intention of interfering in their granddaughter’s troubled marriage before it’s too late. But rather than preach, this couple decides to teach the younger generation what they’ve learned through their many years togethe ...more

Jennifer Beckstrand has done it again with an outstanding story back on Huckleberry Hill in Home on Huckleberry Hill!
Felty and Anna’s granddaughter, Mary Anne, has had enough of just being another tool to make her husband, Jethro’s life easier. When Jethro goes a little too far by forgetting their anniversary and instead fishing with his beloved new fishing pole, she decides to move out of their home.
When Jethro finds Mary Anne, she is camping in his tent with his cot in their backyard. Jethro

This is a very different kind of Amish story. After losing their baby four years earlier, Jethro tries to control Mary Anne’s grief, even forbidding her to cry. He doesn’t want her to spend money on fancy ingredients for special meals she likes to create. He whitewashes the farm scene she painted in the baby’s room. He treats her like a servant and steals all joy from her life. So she moves out of the house into a tent.

The Amish community is up in arms that she’s not obeying her husband. Her gra

This is one of my all-time favorite fiction series. Jennifer Beckstrand has taken a slight curve on Huckleberry Hill with this new book and it works. She keeps the series fresh with each book as she introduces new characters, young descendants of Anna and Felty Helmuth. Anna who is the family matchmaker has had to use special creativity to show solidarity with her granddaughter Mary Anne in this story. She and Felty have done some wild things to support her family but this time the eighty year-o ...more

I was dying to read this book, being a fan of Annie and Felty, and it sure didn’t disappoint.
The author has a character, one of our Amish grandparent’s granddaughters, and this one is different from their usual matchmaking. Annie does present some pot holders, and her wonderful, tongue in cheek, cooking, and this time it is over an open fire.
At times, we all feel taken for granted but their granddaughter, Mary Anne, has had it, and is ready to leave her husband. We end up camping and wait for t

Home on Huckleberry Hill was my first Jennifer Beckstrand book. I was intrigued by the storyline after the summary explains Mary Anne moves into a tent in the woods so her husband won't have to be bothered with her. At times the story is so funny I was laughing out loud and at other times the issues of being taken for granted in marriage and infertility were serious and in need of a resolution. The juxtaposition of these two extremes in one book is hard to pull off, but I think Beckstrand did a ...more

With tubs of candy in their hands the locals are discussing the problems of some in their community. Gossip always traveling like lightning in the grocery store. Solution playing matchmaker again for a couple already married. Once again we have Anna and Felty working their magic What was Mary Anne and Jethro thinking of that’s not the way to have a family. Very fun read

Cute story with Amish grandparents Anna & Felty Helmuth and the troubled marriage of their granddaughter Mary Anne and her husband Jethro. The story is light, overall, but there are a few serious topics including infertility and feminism. I really liked it and finished it in one sitting. This is part of a series, but can stand alone. Looking forward to the next one!

More Huckleberry Hill adventure

I love all of the Huckleberry Hill books. Anna and Felty are precious. Keep them coming. Even tho knew the outcome would be what it was from the beginning, the storyline was both fun and thought provoking.
We all should ask ourselves, "is it I!"

This is a highly enjoyable tale in which a wife moves out of the farmhouse because after six years of marriage her husband prefers to fish than eat dinner with her. The Amish don't divorce, but they can't be forced to live under the same roof. She sets up a tent home and starts making quilts to sell.

The responses of all the community are excellently told, from the amused bishop to the outraged in-laws. Our heroine's grandparents promptly arrive to camp out with her, and of course this causes mo

My two favorite characters are back. Anna and Felty are the lively octogenarians who feel that they must find the perfect spouses for their children and grandchildren.
