Life is meant to be savored, but that's not easy with no family, limited prospects and a past you'd rather not talk about. Still, Callie Smith doesn't know how to feel when she discovers she has a brother and a sister--Malcolm, who grew up with affection, wealth and privilege, and Keira, a streetwise twelve-year-old.

Callie doesn't love being alone, but at least it's safe.

I love the idea behind this story, I can’t imagine finding out I had not one, but two half siblings as an adult. How hard would it be to form a familial bond later in life? Difficult I’m quite sure, especially when every one of the siblings comes from a completely different background. Malcolm is the oldest and moved to his grandfathers home as a teenager, Keira was discovered when she was twelve and Callie as a woman in her twenties. Each age would present a new set of challenges and many are e ...more

A lovely work of fiction about the complexity of family relationships, what it takes to make lasting connections, and overcoming past insecurities and issues, When We Found Home was wonderfully touching and absolutely heartwarming.

Susan Mallery’s books are always a joy to read. I love the flow of her writing, the emotions she touches upon, detailing them perfectly, and of course her characters who are flawed and relatable. When We Found Home turned out t

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I was very excited about reading this book because I've read Susan Mallery's contemporary romances before (some of the Fool's Gold series) and I wanted to try a different genre by her.  Plus the premise of the story seemed to have everything I was looking for in a summer read.  This is about three half siblings who didn't know anything about thei

3 1/2 stars.

Lately it seems as though a lot of romance authors are branching out into women’s fiction, which is a good thing. I think. However, for me, a lot of these novels show the growing pains of the writer trying to be true to their roots while forging new ground.

While Susan Mallery’s When We Found Home is extremely well-written, in her usual fashion, and the subject matter of three half-siblings discovering each other is intriguing, the amount of repetition and lack of spark made the nove

When We Found Home by Susan Mallery

The siblings starring in this story don’t know one another or even know of one another until their father dies and a few years later their grandfather, Alberto Carlesso, goes through his son’s belongings to find out that he has other grandchildren. Instead of just the one grandson Malcolm, that joined his grandfather when he was 12, Alberto finds he also has two granddaughters. Callie is in her twenties and has no family and she has a past she wants to put beh

Fans of this author's is in for a great treat. When We Found Home is a pure delightful read! This book is filled with many engaging characters: Malcolm, Callie, Keira, Delaney, Alberto, and Santiago. All of these characters interacted well with each other. There are a few relationships that blossomed as well between Malcolm and Delaney as well as Callie and Santiago. Both relationships I was a fan of.

At the end of the book are some discussion questions. I chose the following question to answer:

Dear Ms. Mallery,

A few years back, I discovered your Fool’s Gold series and absolutely devoured it. I read nothing else for weeks! It was pretty glorious, since one of my favorite things an author can do is continue to tell new stories in the same world.

When We Found Home isn’t part of that series, but my head canon is that it’s still the same world – just different characters in a different town. And oh what characters they are!

At first I had a bit of trouble with the frequent narrative changes

When We Found Home by Susan Mallery
Family is something we all take for granted. Their the people that will always be there, no matter what. What happens when family is not an option? When We Found Home is how to create a family out of nothing. Susan Mallery takes us through broken hearts, first meetings and slowly built bonds through the eyes of three strangers. Callie has not had an easy life. No family, limited choices and at times no hope. The irony is her ability to stay on the bright side

another book by this author I could not put down! I loved the family dynamics in each family represented because they all felt like either my family or some I have known. Plus many characters had baggage they had to overcome to get where they needed to be by the end of the book.

What makes Susan Mallery an auto-buy author? Her ability to create characters that you not only can relate to but characters that you wish you could have as friends. This latest story is no different. Add When We Found Home to the top of your TBR pile, trust me, you'll be glad you did.

ARC won through goodreads giveaway. I really struggled with finishing this book...for me it was too repetitive, bounced around and skipped through events with no clarification. Thus, I had trouble making a connection with the characters especially the Santiago character.
I struggled with the rating I wanted to give this book. In the end I would say I give it 3.5 stars. I did like the book but had a few issues with it. Let me say that I love the premise - which is three people discovering that they are half siblings at different points in their lives. Keira, the 12 year old who was abandoned by her mother and left in foster care, Callie, who is 26 and struggling to find her way in a sometimes unforgiving world after making a mistake and being punished harshly and ...more

When Malcolms grandfather finds out that his father had two other children he sought them out. All three were raised in different ways where twelve year old Keira was in foster care, Callie was recently out of jail down on her luck trying to live life after being a convicted criminal. Then there was Malcolm raised with his loving grandfather with everything he could possibly want. All three siblings will now live together and learn to become a family.

It isn't every day that I'll read a book in one sitting. For me, it hasn't been that way in such a long time. I felt like I was about to get into a reading rut. It happens when I've been reading a string of great books - eventually, the hangover will occur. Before When We Found Home by Susan Mallery, I picked up and started several books. If only you could have seen that list, it amassed into a lengthy list. It wasn't that I didn't like those books, it just wasn't the right time for me to read t ...more

What I like best about Susan Mallery's books, and this one is no exception is that they're about relationships and the different dynamics that make them up. In When We Found Home we're introduced to three people who've never met but it so happens that they're siblings. The oldest, 30 something Malcolm came to live with his grandfather Alberto as a 12 year old. Many years later 12 year old Keira (she's my favourite) is found and soon after 26 year old Callie comes along. Their father liked women, ...more

This was a different type of book Susan Mallery usually writes. The plot is about Malcolm Carelesso who, is the CEO of his Grandfather Alberto’s famous mail order catalog company who he turned into a big corporation. As a teenager, Malcolm and his mother came to live with his Grandfather and father at his Grandfather’s insistence. His father was not a very good person or role model who left two other children fatherless. I didn’t understand why it started with Delaney the barista, whose job was ...more

A sweet and heart warming tale of two couples and a fractured family healing after the desertion of a heartless father.
Alberto Carlessa was stunned, but welcoming, when a young woman showed up at his door with a twelve year old boy declaring him to be his grandson. He welcomed him, even though his son denied paternity. The woman gladly submitted their DNA and proved to Alberta's delight he was indeed his grandson.
Fast forward to two years after his son's death and Alberto finds out there are t

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC. I have given an honest review.

Susan Mallery has done it again. She creates amazing characters, and the ones in this book are no different. I believe I was two or three chapters in, and my eyes were starting to fill up. I couldn't believe it. I thought to myself, these are all new people, and if I already feel this way, wow!

An amazing story about the power of family and friendship from Susan Mallery!

I was so excited to be granted an ARC of this novel because I knew just by reading the blurb, that it would be amazing! And I've loved Susan Mallery books for AGES so it was a win-win!

This is the story ultimately of 3 siblings who come from vastly different backgrounds, who weren't aware of each other, but are making a family. There's Malcolm who has been in the wealthy lifestyle now for over 20 years; he's CEO of the
I love everything Susan Mallery writes...but her more serious, fiction stories have always been some of my favorites. Ms. Mallery writes such wonderfully, complex characters and always brings something new to her stories, which feature emotional turmoil, conflict, strength, family, and love. I love when she sets her books in the Seattle area, as I also have strong ties to the area. She always captures the beauty and uniqueness of the city and its residents. This is ultimately a story about the p ...more

I just finished Susan's current novel ,read it in 2 days, thats how great it was to read and it takes an excellant book for me to not put it down. This should be a Hallmark movie, the warmth and love of a family connection no matter where their roots are from, they all find each other and work tremendously hard to keep that bond close to each other. It's not easy having siblings but half siblings may be twice as a job to keep, and the characters again, show the women especially strong and with p ...more

#FirstLine ~ As Delaney Holbrook watched the man in the suit approached, she did her best to remind herself she'd given up on men in suits -- in fact all men and most suits, when it came to that.

A delightful read that kept me fully engaged the whole way through. I love that I can count on Mallery to write books that have dynamic characters that make me feel and great plots that make me think. I am always so satisfied when I finish one of her books. When We Found Home was one of my favorite books

When We Found Home!!

What an amazing book!! So many wonderful people in this one. I love Malcolm. He’s stern but awesome. Santiago is fantastic. He’s so caring and what a great family man. Callie is so sweet for all that’s she’s been through. Delaney, how she found her way was just wonderful to watch. Kiera is so spunky. She truly had a lot going on. So glad Alberto brought the three sisters and brother together.
Right from the start I could see how this one was going to go, but I did care. I wanted to see the siblings become family, to see them start to depend on each other. And while they had a rough start that did happen. I did find it funny how Keira, the youngest, was often the one that held them together. The romances for the two older siblings were great too. Both of them found people that they needed and that appreciated their crazy new family.

A new Susan Mallery book is always a special treat and this story is no different. Imagine finding out you have family you didn't know about and then drawing together to form a special family bond. I don't want to give any spoilers away so I will just say treat yourself and read this book; you will not be disappointed. As always there is humor, disappointment, heartache, hope and love in Susan's stories. I would recommend this to anyone looking for some good get away time with a great book!

I have read every book Susan Mallery has published, (I think) in my opinion, this is the best book she’s ever written. I feel like she reached into parts of my life (found out I had a brother and sister just 7 years ago)

The relationships, the mysteries, the love was so in depth and so real.

This is a definite must read!!

I really enjoyed this book! I loved the characters and the entire storyline. It was a very easy and relaxing read; as a matter of fact I stayed up until 2:30 AM finishing it. I know that this is a stand alone novel, but I would like to see the characters again!! Overall, I really enjoy Susan Mallory’s writing style.
