Because that's what the story is really about: getting out of paying your debts.

There is just something about Novik's fairy tales. Something magical, atmospheric and utterly charming. I didn't like Spinning Silver quite as much as my beloved Uprooted - and I'll explain why a bit later - but it still kept me captivated from start to finish.

Spinning Silver is a loose retelling of Rumpelstiltskin. I say "loose" because you will recognise certain elements from the original - turning things into go

I’m. Just. SO. Happy.

description

This is completely different from UPROOTED. Kind of. It’s still a fairytale-like story, but it’s wholly unrelated to the Dragon and Agnieszka. There are no awesome tree people. There’s no wooden Kasia or royal orphans or upstart wizards.

There are awesome some-other-kind-of-people who may or may not be wintery in origin. And a not-so-awesome demon. And not one, not two, but THREE new heroines, all hampered by expectations, all saying, EFF that, RAWRRR.

aaaah IT'S HAPPENING! This is everything I wanted omg.

This was by far my favorite novella in The Starlit Wood but I was desperate for it to be turned into a full novel so I could see MORE. The whole story was absolutely mesmerizing. It has an elf lord who demands that the girl change his faerie silver to gold and was just everything I love in a story. Can I already call this one of my favorite reads of 2018??

Mwahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!! I read this early!!!!! >:)

It’s definitely the spiritual successor of UPROOTED. It has all the heart, family, riveting magic you could ask for, and a gorgeous slow burn/unveiling of feelings that will make you desperate to turn the page and loathe to finish. Also. I loved the ending. It’s definitely up there with top 10 book endings.

The author of Uprooted strikes again, with what appears to be a take-off on Rumpelstiltskin. Can't wait for July!!

A top fantasy of the year.

Novik returns to the world of Uprooted but with a completely new story and characters. The author has a way of making every character powerful and important in their own right, and she wove 6 distinct perspectives together to weave a memorable and beautiful tale.

The slow burn romance is real, my friends. It is slow, but it is WORTH IT.

Don't miss this one!!

What do I have to do to get an ARC of this? Help!
Want it. Need it. Must have it.

What is this?
Is it a separate book? A second book in Uprooted? A book in the same universe??
The covers certainly look like they could be a series.

I am all smug contentment on finishing SPINNING SILVER, the ending was utter completeness. This is a complex fantasy novel, definitely modelled in the background by a dark fairytale that would be familiar to any reader.

The book starts off with a female protagonist Miryem, such a young woman of determination, focus, self-belief and strength. What happens is that slowly, as the tale unfolds, two other female characters Wanda and Irina join the tale to be key storytellers. I absolutely lov

Beautiful, dreamy writing reminiscent of Uprooted and Katherine Arden’s The Bear and the Nightingale. Love the fairytale-like story; the retelling events were cleverly incorporated.

Certain parts of the book were incredible. I LOVED quite a few moments in the story and the

This is easily one of my top reads of the year. As soon as I'd finished I just wanted to start all over again. I was late coming to 'Uprooted' but loved it once I read it. Spinning Silver is even better imo.

That said I can see it's not going to be for everyone. The very things that make me love it so much are probably going to put others off. For one thing this is not a linear story. It is replete with subplots and multiple povs, which

oh my goodness. how can i even start? i cant possibly describe how much i loved this book. how strong each character was. how wonderfully powerful this book was!! i loved it from the very first page to the very last sentence (THAT LAST SENTENCE!) i don’t think i’ve ever been this happy for fictional characters. Naomi Novik truly outdid herself. favorite new novel!

there were so many parts that made me want to cry and emotional. i also found this book to have LOADS of humor. i wasn’t even sure if

Intended seemingly as a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin, it gets far from the original, but the writing is magical, the female lead is strong and clever and cunning, and it has good teachings.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the review copy in exchange for an honest review.

One of the most anticipated books of the year has to be Spinning Silver. After loving Uprooted so much I really needed to read this. And I didn’t end up loving this as much but Spinning Silver is still a great piece of written fairytale retelling.

As you might have guessed from the title this is a loose retelling of Rumpelstilskin. Inspired more like it as we don’t get any real Rumpels. Just characters
